Southern Federation of Dance Examinations
What is the SFD?
This exciting Australian dance syllabi aims to introduce students to a range of styles of music and movements. This is an excellent organization with up to date and annually revised levels. Each level consists of a number of exercises, which aim to give the students a variety of styles and techniques. As the levels progress, the students will be introduced to exercises on the floor, from the corner as well as at the barre. The students will also present a dance, which is choreographed by their teacher. This dance may be performed at the annual Production.
How exams benefit dance students?
The syllabi increase in difficulty from one level to the next providing challenging technique for jazz, classical & tap students. Repetition and practice improve students’ memory and physical skills and stimulate their interest in their chosen style of dance.
Students gain invaluable confidence through their achievement.
Social bonding occurs as they share the experience with their fellow students.
Examinations lead to Teacher qualifications. Many of our wonderful teachers have trained at Dance Plus and gained their SFD Teacher qualification whilst they continue their studies and professional careers.
The exams are conducted at Dance Plus studios.
Students present in small groups (a maximum of 6).
The cost of the exams range from $50 to $100 (includes exam rehearsal fee)
An exam rehearsal will also be held at Dance Plus prior to the exam.
The students must attend at least one exam class per week.
It is highly recommended for the lower levels and compulsory for the upper levels that Jazz & Classical students attend at least one other jazz, contemporary, ballet or musical theatre class each week to improve technique, develop strength and flexibility.
